157 Quote from letter written to Nellie Hanna Love Sydnes by her cousin Russell Fisher dated Feb. 14, 1958, Utica, Mississippi

(NOTE: Russell Fisher, co-author of "The Fisher Family" history published in 1959, provided most of the details that we currently have on the Robinson family. All the names and dates have been included in this FTW file. The notes from Russell are transcribed here. Actual source documentation is not readily available at this time, but considering the source of this information, the degree of accuracy is probably high.)

--Paternal Ancestry of Mary Ann (Robinson) Hanna--

John Robinson Sr. is the first of the name in Maryland, that we have positive identification: Married prior to 1744, in Maryland, Lucy, daughter of William Fells, who was the founder of "Fells Point" later Baltimore. They had an issue of four sons, vizt, John, Jr., William, Jerry and James; it appears that just prior to 1760, that John Robinson Sr. and his wife Lucy were divorced, as vague records indicate that Lucy, with sons, William, Jerry and James immigrated into Pennsylvania, while John Sr. with his son John Jr. immigrated to the Edgefield District of South Carolina where he died in 1760 at the home of Mrs. Rebecca (Becroft) Raymond; she was the daughter of Abram Becroft. (all 11 children born in South Carolina) John Robinson Jr. born in Maryland in 1744, and died in Claiborne County, Territory of Mississippi, Nov. 10, 1808; Married (1st) Mary Raymond, who died in Edgefield County, S.C. in 1799, daughter of Mrs. Rebecca (becroft) Raymond, their issue. (see the family page for John Robinson Sr. and John Robinson Jr. and associated family pages for continued information on this family that was in this letter)

"Am sending the Robinson ancestry as I have which carries back to just prior 1700 in Maryland John Robinson Sr. is buried near Hermanville, Miss, Benj. and William F. two of his sons are burried near Rocky Springs, a daughter is burried at Port Gibson, I don't know where James you ancestor is burried however I believe at Port Gibson, tho I've never been able to locate his grave, Nancy who married Elijah Clarke, in Claiborne County, is buried in the Clarke Cemetery near Carlisle, Miss. Uncle George Fisher's first wife was a niece of Elijah Clarke, then Benj. Robinson bro. to your James wed Lavinia Taylor who was a sister to the great grandmother of Lawrence Mallette, she was Sarah Ann Taylor, the first thing you know you will be your own grandmother, ..."

164 As legends go, the first recorded instance of violence in the feud occurred after an 1878 dispute about the ownership of a hog: Floyd Hatfield had it and Randolph McCoy said it was his. But in truth, the dispute was over land or property lines and the ownership of that land. The pig was only in the fight because one family believed that since the pig was on their land, that meant it was theirs; the other side objected. The matter was taken to the local Justice of the Peace, and the McCoys lost because of the testimony of Bill Staton, a relative of both families. The individual presiding over the case was Anderson "Preacher Anse" Hatfield . In June 1880, Staton was killed by two McCoy brothers, Sam and Paris, who were later acquitted on the grounds of self-defense. STATON William R.
